My question is actually a little bit off topic, sorry! But I was very puzzled yesterday when I wanted to look at my CJK-LaTeX files (which I didn't do since SuSE 8.0) and no auctex-menu showed up in Emacs (almost unchanged SuSE 8.1). I can't believe that this is true for others as well, or did anybody else see this?
Even when I type "M-x load-library tex-site" Emacs says "done" - but no menu anyway. How can I check what's going wrong?
Appears to work for me when I start emacs, then do "M-x load-library
tex-site", then load a .tex file.
If I load the .tex file first before loading the tex-site library,
apparently the older tex-mode is used. Therefore it probably helps if
you add
(require 'tex-site) to your ~/.emacs.
The default ~/.emacs as distributed with SuSE Linux alread does this,
see /etc/skel/.emacs and /etc/skel/.gnu-emacs. Looks like you use you
own Emacs startup files (I also have my own).
