Ok understood. Is is possible to use existing ones from M$ Windows 98 SE?
Yes. For use via libXft with Qt3/KDE3 it is enough to just copy them to /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype. If you want to use these fonts via the traditional X11 font mechanisms as well, you also need entries in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype/fonts.scale for these fonts. To create these, copy these fonts into some temporary directory and create a fonts.scale.microsoft-fonts with ttmkfdir: cd /temporary-directory-with-microsoft-fonts/ ttmkfdir > fonts.scale.microsoft-fonts cp fonts.scale.microsoft-fonts /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype/ SuSEconfig --module fonts The final call to 'SuSEconfig --module fonts' will merge the contents of all /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype/fonts.scale.<something> files into /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype/fonts.scale.
Btw do i need to instal russian( ru_RU.KOI8-R) locale to use russian GTK+/Lesstiiff etc prgrams.
You already have such a locale on SuSE Linux 8.0: mfabian@gregory:~$ ls -d /usr/lib/locale/ru_* /usr/lib/locale/ru_RU/ /usr/lib/locale/ru_RU.utf8/ /usr/lib/locale/ru_RU.koi8r/ /usr/lib/locale/ru_UA/ mfabian@gregory:~$ LC_ALL=ru_RU.KOI8-R locale charmap KOI8-R mfabian@gregory:~$
Is QT using unicode?
Yes, Qt is using unicode internally. But the encoding of external files written by KDE programs depends on the locale you are using when running the programs. I.e. when starting kedit like LC_ALL=ru_RU.KOI8-R kedit it will read and write files in KOI8-R encoding, when starting it like LC_ALL=ru_RU.UTF-8 kedit it will read and write files in UTF-8 encoding. -- Mike Fabian <mfabian@suse.de> http://www.suse.de/~mfabian 睡眠不足はいい仕事の敵だ。
