The latter was the problem at the previous kernel update; we broke kABI, then user reinstalled Nvidia package to "fix". Soon after that, we re-release the kernel with kABI fix, then Nvidia for the users who updated got broke again...
This sounds like a reason to keep the kabi even if we have this kernel-uname-r depedency.
