No, I think that the average openSUSE user probably does have a backup for their data (since that's easy to do) but may well not have an easily usable system backup (since that's harder to do) and may have lots of barely remembered config and installs in the system, and may also choose to install an upgraded version if there is a hardware problem. So I think losing the root system is likely to be more painful than losing a data filesystem.
