My apologies.... I did do this but on my wife's computer (my "old" 32-bit system) on which I installed openSUSE 12.2 several days ago and also used grub rather than grub2. I couldn't have tried it on my 64-bit system because - stupid me! - I am using grub2 on it :-( . So my final plea re my hassle is: what do I need to do to get the UDMA correct when using grub2, please?
