CC'ing all the people who have participated in the previous 4k
alignment discussion. Unfortunately, the partition alignment update
couldn't make it into openSUSE 11.2 but the kernel side is ready and
if I understand correctly upstream libparted now correctly honors the
physical sector alignment, so I think we will have proper support for
it in openSUSE 11.3. If I'm mistaken somewhere, please feel free to
point out.

It would be nice if we could provide a support document which
describes how to work around the issue manually as those hard drives
are already in the wild.
