What kernel version is this?
This looks like a broken BIOS, have they tried to update it?
No, the above message doesn't imply that the BIOS is broken. All it says is that the ACPI BIOS has reserved the SMBus for its own use and the OS can't use it. This is totally OK. Depending on the kernel version they are running, I may be able to suggest a boot option they can try.
And is this the 64 or 32bit kernel? Have they tried the other one from what they are using?
