[opensuse-kde3] Missing writing accents

Hello List, how can I get back the ability writing accents on my KDE3-desktop? My System is openSUSE 13.1 with KDE3 (3.5.10 release 262) from inofficial Suse-repos. I'm using the keyboard layout with dead keys. Under KDE4 all applications can work with accents. Under KDE3 there is no application writing accents. Writing accents is active (kcontrol). Any hints (or is this behaviour a bug)?. [opensuse-kde3] openSUSE 12.1 with KDE3 and KDE4 applications

Hi! I am about to install openSUSE 12.1 on a laptop. I want to use it mainly (or entirely) with the KDE3 desktop but I still want to be able to run KDE4 applications under KDE3. In the past, I have done this with openSUSE 11.3 and 11.4. During installation of 11.3 and 11.4, I selected KDE4 as the default desktop. Then I added the KDE:KDE3 repository and installed all the packages to properly run KDE3 following more or less the recommendations given here: HOW-TO: KDE 3.5 on 11.4 This has worked perfectly and I was even able to use the oxygen theme in KDE3. For example, okular and vlc came with the nice oxygen theme even when running under KDE3. My question is: Is this procedure going to work also with openSUSE 12.1 or is there anything in particular I have to pay attention to? Thanks! [opensuse-kde3] 13.1 user cannot eject usb stick

In 11.4, I put in a stick, a popup asked me what to do, I selected open in new window, and went on about my business. When business finished, I went updir in that window, right clicked, and selected safely remove. Safely remove is denied in 13.1, "not authorized to perform operation". AFAICT, I can only eject as root user. I looked through the entire kde3 mailing list archive from October 2013 on without seeing this mentioned, and Googling "opensuse usb not authorized to perform operation 13.1 kde3" turned up nothing directly on apparent point, only about 12.3 and no more HAL or kio_slave. How/where does one authorize user ejection? Would updating to whatever's in the Trident repo help? If this is as simple as enabling the KDE3HAL repo to get HAL and the missing kio, why is KDE3HAL a separate repo? What's the downside? Hello: What are the differences between openSUSE KDE3 and KDE3-Trident? I only found this which doesn't have too much info: http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-kde3/2014-07/msg00000.html I have installed KDE3 Trident in openSUSE 13.2. I hoped that I automatic mounting/unmounting of removable media works in Trident but it doesn't. Mounting seems OK but right click/safely remove gives error: Error - kio_media_mouthelper Unable to unmount "/dev/sdc1". Reason: Not authorized to perform operation Interestingly if I try to unmount the device in krusader (right click/unmount) it works: it unmounts (but doesn't remove) the device. Furthermore removable media mount options cannot be set. Right click media icon/Properties: in previous openSUSE versions (<= 12.2) there was a tab where mount options could be set, like character set etc. This is missing here. I also noticed that kicker menus don't have submenus, everything is below a main category menu. What can I expect from Trident, what are the other differences compared to KDE and KDE3-Hal-enabled repo packages? [opensuse-kde3] 13.1 KSIRC broken

I just replaced 11.4 with 13.1. Now KSIRC instead of auto-connecting properly displays this in the output window: [03:48:20] Your perl interpreter is *really* screwed up: the getopts.pl library is not [03:48:20] even there! Have you even bothered to run 'install'? Is it possible some perl package didn't get installed that KSIRC depends on? I have 47 as wc result from package query for perl.
