Ilya,
I don't know if this is only a kde issue or if xorg/glib may be involved. The problem is the screen blacks out when you launch an app run as root. Like when I start kate as root, all of the screen goes black except for the kate session chooser that lets you pick a kate session. After you choose a session and kate open, you see kate. If you move the window around and force a redraw of the screen, then all the color and other windows come back.
What could this be?
