I would just configure the maildir (or mixedmaildir) resource to use that mail folder. "Configure KMail..."->Accounts->Receiving, select the resource (should be called "Local Folders") and click on Edit, then choose/enter the folder. Or add a new one. As by default a maildir resource is used, you'd need to do that anyway if you used mbox folders in KDEPIM3 too. In this case you need a mixedmaildir resource.
