I don't have Dragonplayer installed but no issue at all with vlc or audacity. I have ffmpeg with alla codecs (and additional media libs from packman), gstreamer-backend.
But VLC and Audacity do *not* use Phonon (nor gstreamer). The point was to test whether playing back those files works with Phonon in general on your system or not.
I have gstreamer-0.10 and gstreamer-1.8 installed both with plugin bad and ugly.
gstreamer-0_10 is irrelevant here, as phonon-backend-gstreamer uses 1.x. You should also install gstreamer-plugins-bad-orig-addons, gstreamer-ugly- orig-addons. The normal bad and ugly packages do not contain non-free codecs. gstreamer-plugins-libav would likely also be a good choice, as that supports practically all codecs (via ffmpeg). Though at least mp3 and wav should work on a default installation, check that you also have gstreamer-fluendo-mp3 and gstreamer-plugins-good and -base. And again, check that all gstreamer 1.x package are the same version. If you have a mixture of e.g. 1.4 (from the standard repo) and 1.8, this won't work. Deleting the plugins cache (~/.cache/gstreamer-1.0/) may help if the necessary plugins are installed but are not found. You could of course also try phonon-backend-vlc instead, as VLC is apparently working fine on your system. I just now tried an MP3 and that works as well.
