KDE's system sounds do work when logged into KDE as root, but not as any other user, even after explicitly turning login and logoff sounds on in systemsettings, and rebooting. As normal user, attempting to open YaST2 causes a popup window saying only Su returned with an error. Users are members of groups audio, pulse and pulse-access in /etc/group.
