This is due the fact that at least parts of kdelibs link to, and use, QtWebkit. QtWebkit in turn uses gst to provide HTML video/audio.
Both v4 and v5 of QtWebKit need the antique? Only for HTML5 AV output?
1-Why is libQtWebKit even relevant? It isn't taboo'd. I only use KHTML in Konq (WebKit doesn't support absolute font sizes).
QtWebkit is not the same as kwebkitpart
2-Why is antique gstreamer required (what actually needs it)?
Initial plans where to support QtWebkit with gst1, and it was used for some time in 13.1 dev cycle, but since phonon-gstreamer was never properly ported to gst1, even though some upstream effort, we reverted that to 0_10. Note the
Is this "never properly ported" an upstream issue, with Fedora 20 and/or (K)ubuntu 13.10 likely or known to be released around the same time as or modestly before 13.1 with a similar dependency on the antique?
linking QtWebkit against gst1 and phonon-gstreamer 0_10, renderes this phonon backend useless[1] , and we still wanted to provide both working backends for 13.1
Lots of talk of canberra and gtk there. This is KDE as pure as I can manage. Would adding pulseaudio help anything? If I proceed by "breaking" libQtWebKit# by denying the ancient gstreamer, but have phonon-backend-vlc and all (50 of) its deps installed, and all of alsa, would all of (solution 1: do not install) kcalc kdebase4-openSUSE kdebase4-runtime kdebase4-sessionkdebase4-workspace kde-gtk-config kdm konqueror konsole ksnapshot truly be broken, or just broken according to the package management system's reporting of dependencies? Should I try just to see what works or not? It's just a test system anyway. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
