Bob, in my mind Kmail2 is broken, totally. It is not worth to give it a second chance. Like you I migrated to Thunderbird. I use IMAP as well
I do not want to start a flame, but I'd avoid absolute statements like this one. For some, KMail works very reliably (and yes, I use it in production), in particular the 4.11 (now beta) version. Best results are with IMAP (yes, unfortunately POP3 lags a bit behind with that).
The strange thing is, it does seem to work for some people, although I get the impression more use POP3 than IMAP. My recent experiment shows that synchronisation with the IMAP server is not a problem, but local filtering definitely doesn't work here. I shall experiment with deleting all my existing filters, and then redefine them, as suggested by Viljo, but I suspect I'm going to stick with Thunderbird for now. I don't have server side filtering available here.
Regardless of that, I would suggest to file bugs for issues, given that the new maintainer (Laurent Montel) has been very active in fixing them.
I'll take a look at Bugzilla and see if there's a current bug I can contribute to. Or start a new one.
