Hello all, I am running openSUSE 12.1 with KDE 4.9.00 "release 558". Since, as far back as KDE 4.8, I have been having a very peculiar issue with my volume. It increases automagically! I notice this more when notification sounds occur whilst something else is playing (e.g. VLC, kaffiene, etc.). For instance, when I move a window a sound plays at the start and at the end of the move. When the end of the move sound is about to play, the volume had increased (almost to 100% sometimes) and plays really loud. This also happens when the breakpoint notification sound is played in KDevelop4. Most of the time this happens when I am watching/listening to a podcast in VLC/Kaffiene. The podcast is playing at a low volume (just for background noise) and when an event notification sound plays, the volume jump to 100% (or very close) and plays extremely loud. I've jumped a few times! I have tried to lower the volume for the "Event Sounds" but it only sticks for a little while. I'm not sure if this is a bug or perhaps something to do with how each application has its own volume? If it's the latter, is there some way I could make it so there is only one volume for the entire system? Any ideas?
