Few ideas:

Hi Bruno,
I need this user list also _now_ for 12.1, but didn't read anywhere that it can be switched on so far. How can I do this with 12.1?
Unfortunately the 12.1 didn't have that part included. And fixing it, is not a small task.
I just started to switch to upstream for KDM to get this user list, but of course this breaks the design theme badly during boot and first login. With another theme the same will be true, bootsplash, kdm, ksplash should be in phase. Not really a professional solution, but what can I do instead? Don't want to dive into theme design to update the KDM design of openSUSE on my own. The solution could be to pick the next theme
Download all http://geeko.ioda.net/git/art/12.2/kdm/ and place them for example in subfolder called openSUSE in /usr/share/kde4/apps/kdm/theme/ to activate userlist then edit manually /usr/share/kde4/config/kdm/kdmrc or use systemsettings to modifify the options like you want. Then (important) in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager you can change the theme by openSUSE (normally it's SUSE) This should achieve what you need. But 12.2 is not the same design than 12.1
Greetings Ralf
