Hi Sven,

I'm using KDE:Release:47 and have the same issue. Of course, it's still
a mix of 4.7.0 and 4.7.1, as the build service is still brewing new
packages...

I could start kde3's kicker as a visible task manager. KDE3 programs
(konsole, konqueror) showed up fine, and so did pidgin. KDE4 progams
were shown in kicker, but appeared to be invisible for human eyes.

Hom can I turn off desktop effects when I don't see the menu entries? So
I went back to KR46 :-(
