[opensuse-kde] X does not start in RL 5, but with startx

Hi everyone,
another strange thing happened to me last thursday. In the morning, my
pc started with runlevel 5, I logged in and worked. When I finished
work, I logged out, and then wanted shut down the pc from the greeter
screen as usual. But there was no greeter screen that afternoon, just
the command line. From then on, kdm does not start in runlevel 5.
Strange enough, I can login as root, issue the "init 3" command, login
as user, and do the "startx". X (7.6 from the distro, openSUSE 11.4) and
KDE (4.6.3 from KDE:Release:46) start fine.
After I read "switching to runlevel 5" at boot time, the screen goes
black, a little later the nvidia logo appears, the mouse cursor (with
the "background activity" symbol), and then I'm thrown back to the text
screen.
There are no errors in /var/log/Xorg.0.log. The last lines read
---snip---

[ 53.515] (II) ImExPS/2 Logitech Explorer Mouse: Close
[ 53.515] (II) UnloadModule: "evdev"
---pins---
What about those "Power Button: Close" lines?
There are no "(EE)" entries in the log, except for the standard "(WW)
warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown." line.
Plus Thunderbird's Enigmail AddOn does not work because it can't load
the necessary agent. Neither TB nor Enigmail have been installed on
thursday.
The kde4-kgreeter-plugins rpm was installed on May 9, so it is not the
culprit ;-) But what may be responsible?
Regards,
Werner
