KMail2 is the rewrite that has not yet been released. Since you have this (in your Favourites/on your desktop?), you must have installed 11.4 betasomething when KMail2 was still a candidate to be a part of KDE 4.6. It was withdrawn and we reverted to kdepim 4.4.6 (kmail 1).
So delete KMail2 from whatever is referencing /usr/share/applications/kde4/KMail2.desktop and replace it with KMail.
Will, Thanks for replying. You were correct and your advice fixed it. Iwas opening withthe old Kmail icon and that caused the problem. Deleted it and made a new one. All is well now.
