The crippled VLC has been fixed and is building 1.1.6 in Playground. It offers more or less the same functionality as the crippled Xine, but it is just a package that enables us to build packages that required libvlc.
I'm working on xine-lib atm and it refuses to build without it's internal ffmpeg, after I got the pre-checkin script to work properly. You should have a look at the spec file somebody put %bcond's for every feature, I've removed them in my local copy but won't check it in until it's suse legal. So it's not so crippled after all atm. I can play mpeg2 with the mmlibs libxine . I've put out a plea for assistance withe the opensuse-codec-installer for non kde4 gui's, this is my first encounter with it or can phonon work with other wm's? Anyway, I've followed the suggestion to agregate GNOME:Factory gobject-introspection to multimedia:libs which will hopefully get the gstreamers building properly for <= 11.3. i use xine for testing dvd menus and aspect ratios, kaffeine chokes on dvd menus it follows them but doesn't return at the end, you have to press stop and then play again, it's also too good with correcting aspect ratios and doesn't show up problems that occur when the dvd is shown on a tv. Vlc doesn't handle dvd menus properly either although now I've fixed libdvdnav and libdvdread to build with pkg-config maybe things will change there. They should be in factory next week.
