A minor sound issue popped up after I updated to KDE 4.6 RC1 (4.5.90). I have a soundblaster card and speakers for my main/default sound device, and a Logitech USB wireless headset. My usual configuration is to use the soundbalster as the default device for all system sounds, and the headset only for Skype, Ekiga etc. After updating to KDE 4.6 RC1 and restarting, KDE complained that it had an extra sound device in its config, and wanted to remove it. I initially clicked No, and poked around in the Phonon config to see what was up. It appears that the name that the Soundblaster was known by has changed from a fairly detailed name to simply "default". I tested a bit, and "default" seemed to work OK.. and since I don't care what it's called as long as it works, I set up "default" as the primary device for all sound options in the Phonon setup. This appears to work in most cases. Sound from a video played in a browser is directed to the speakers, sound from multimedia is directed to the speakers.. games.. to the speakers... Skype works in the headset... and so on. So everything seems to be "right" except... for KDE system sounds... the "bink" sounds you get on errors for example. These are only played through the USB headset.... and I cannot figure out why. Any tips, suggestions, ideas here? Something changed in the move from the Beta to RC1 that changed some sound config for KDE somewhere... but.... where to look to fix it is the big question. (I poked the bugs on kde.org, but didn't find anything relevant) C. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
