[cc'ed opensuse-kde@opensuse.org] Ilya, Will is right: this deserves a public discussion. Let us prefix KDE3 matters with KDE3: in the subject, as done above, thus all those focusing on KDE4 are free to ignore these messages. Okay? On Friday 13 August 2010, 18:51:03 Ilya Chernykh wrote:
We all know that the process table in ksysguard is flickering and ksysguard from KDE4 is required for kdebase3, this leads to installation of all kde4 libs.
I have just disabled requirement for KDE4 ksysguard and installed package kdebase3-workspace-ksysguardd from SLE10. And - surprise! The process table now looks excellent!
The problem is kdebase3-workspace-ksysguardd and kdebase4-workspace-ksysguardd conflict with each other. So I am trying to allow user to make choise: to install ksysguard daemon from KDE3 or KDE4. Anyway I am sure I am going in right direction, so kdebase3 should not require kde4 libs.
Interesting observation. The question is: Is there any chance to make this work in a non conflicting way with pure KDE3 and mixed KDE3/KDE4 setups? And yes, you're right. KDE3 should not depend in any way on KDE4. Obviously, this is going back to #379351, where Mike Fabian complains about a conflict between kdebase4-workspace-ksysguardd and kdebase3-ksysguardd. Stephan Binner fixed it by dropping kdebase3-ksysguardd, and relying on kdebase4-workspace-ksysguardd, which is incompatible with KDE3 ksysguard now. I see two possible fixes: - reenable kdebase3-ksysguard and relocate it to say /usr/bin/ksysguardd3. - fix the incompatibilities The disability to show a useful process table with Ctrl-Esc in KDE3 is nagging me for quite a while. Personally, I've load of possibilities for this very task, but most of the users I'm responsible for haven't, and more importantly, aren't interested in any alternatives, I can offer...
