Running 11.2, 4.4. Kmail 1.13.0
Will, Thanks for replying. It is appreciated.
Can't send any mail with a Distribution list because Kmail keeps adding an @Easystreet at the end of the list name and the server will not accept it. (Easystreet is the name of my computer)
I am pretty sure that this was working OK until I enabled Nepomuk/Akonadi/Strigi whatever.
How do I make this right again? Ideas? Can I go to wherever these apps put things and delete whatever they have done? Could that work?
It appears to be. Cannot be sure because ther is not much information there. Espacially the status.
I have already disabled Nepomuk/Strigi because it kept popping up messages that it couldn't do this or that.
If at all possible, it would help us fix things if you don't disable Nepomuk and report the errors. For example mail send was being slowed down in 4.4.0 by a slow-running query from KMail to Nepomuk - that has since been fixed, but might have been written off by a few devs as a Heisenbug, had it not been widely reported.
Don't know what a Heisenbug is. Do know that those error messages are really annoying and I don't seem to get any benefit from it. However, if you want me to re-enable it I will if doing so creates some benefit to you or other Devs.
The addressbook in Kmail is also broken or "optimized"? You can no longer edit it. You know, things like Family, Business, Friends, Distribution List, etc.
Do you mean the Tools->Address Book menu item in KMail (launches KAddressBook), or the To/CC selector that is reached from the composer?
Yess the Tools>Address Book.
If you mean KAddressBook, Distribution Lists have been generalised to Contact Groups, which you can create with New Group, right click to edit then type to add contacts.
Oh my !!!! Why ???? I have 32 Distribution lists with hundreds of Email addresses that I have accumulated over the years. With each upgrade of openSUSE (from 7 something till now) I have been able to import all my mail stuff through every upgrade. Are you telling me that I have to create 32 New Group Contacts and type in hundreds of Email addresses???? No, No, No !!! What are you people thinking ????
What I think is broken, although I have only looked at for 2 minutes (got saturday morning chores to do here) is accessing these contact groups as distribution lists in KMail. When I click the Select.. button in kmail, I get the distribution lists as created in KDE 4.3 and older. The reason is that there are now 2 ways to access the addressbook, the new way and the old way have different definitions of distribution lists and while kmail is using the old way, kaddressbook is using the new way and dist lists fall in the gap.
Will, please, wait for your regular day of work, after you have your coffee, and find a way to fix this. Please !!! I'm sure I'm not the only one affected by this
Anne Wilson has been doing a great job on the kde-pim list of gathering up these issues, see this thread:
http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde-pim&m=126260422023582&w=2
And this thread on kdepim-users: http://lists.kde.org/?l=kdepim-users&m=126701515109769&w=2
OK, looked at both. Seems as Anne has a problem also.
Contact categories (Family, Business, Friends etc) not yet implemented in the new kaddressbook - the data is still there but there is no way to view or edit them. Dotan has reported this at https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=222678 and it's due to come back for 4.5.
And in the meantime ? While I need to communicate with the people on my Distribution lists ??
Anyway if you've got this far, help is at hand.
In the build service project home:wstephenson:branches:KDE:KDE4:Factory:Desktop, I have packaged kdepim4-4.4.1 with the old kaddressbook implementation alongside the arguably incomplete new one. The 'kaddressbook' package there contains both 'koldaddressbok' and 'kaddressbook' binaries. The kmail Address Book menu item will still launch the new address book however.
Sooo... How do we get around that. I've already tried to add an old addressbook that is correct but doesn't seem to be recognized. Ummmm...So you are saying what? Go to Build Service, download that and maybe/probably that is a work_around fix?
Please let me know if the above works or helps.
Thanks Will. You are a true"trooper". It's late now and my old brain is tired. I will try your modified package tomorrow and see if it helps. Maybe Anne could jump in here and tell us what she has found out. Bob S -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
