I know it's not a problem in KDE, I'm just saying that right now, pulse-audio is providing me with a feature that I can't easily get without it, namely the ability to easily configure the sound output channel. I have already filed a bug against yast2, since I believe it should have this functionality alsa can do it, but not easily - it requires messing around with config files with obscure syntax. Not very user friendly. Right now, when working with alsa directly, the sound mixer won't even show me the hdmi backend, even though it is there and I can use it if I force it in the config file.
