I'd like to add that you need to take care of correct permissions and link 
usage, so your best bet is to tar up /home with the --archive option, and then 
create the new user, but don't log in yet.
As root you need to extract that archive back into /home again and check that 
the file permissions are right, if they are not run a 'chown -R 
USERNAMEXY:users' over the whole directory in case user ids mismatch.
