Hello Sven,

Hello everyone!

As mentioned in the meeting's summary we made a plan on how to
get stable default repos for the respin of the KDE live CD, which
includes Openoffice, firefox etc. and of course KDE 4.2. The
problem about this is that currently if the user installs the
live CD, it would have to add the Factory repos, which will
change to KDE 4.3 at some point.

Since the live CD users did not add the factory repos themselves
they should not be bothered with finding out when they have to
change them again to avoid KDE 4.3 betas or even alphas.

So the plan is as follows:

- Get KDE 4.2.2 in factory to a state that does not contain any
critical bugs or regressions compared to 4.2.1.
- Create a KDE 4.2 repo by copying the files from the Factory
repo. The KDE 4.2 repo is opensuse stable, i.e. frozen. The repo
will not see any 4.2.3 version and only really, really important
patches are added after the creation.
- Let the respin use that frozen repo.
- Post on opensuse-kde and blog about the stable repo, i.e. tell
people to change their repos.
- Wait some weeks.
- Move KDE 4.3 to Factory.

This way users have weeks to move to the stable repo before
Factory gets filled with KDE 4.3. The respin can use stable repos
and users get the same experience as if 11.1 was released with
KDE 4.2.

The transition from KDE3 to KDE4 is still a bit confusing :-)

It has been advised to use KDE4:Factory for better usability since
KDE 4.1 is lacking some features KDE 4.2 has. Nonetheless
KDE4:Factory isn't that stable KDE4:Stable is, I guess.

So should I switch from KDE4:Factory to KDE 4.2 repo to regain
stability when that repo appears? When will it appear?

Kind regards
Willi
