Good evening everybody,

Since the live CD users did not add the factory repos themselves they
should not be bothered with finding out when they have to change them again
to avoid KDE 4.3 betas or even alphas.

I agree.

So the plan is as follows:

- Get KDE 4.2.2 in factory to a state that does not contain any critical
bugs or regressions compared to 4.2.1.
+ 1

- Create a KDE 4.2 repo by copying the files from the Factory repo. The KDE
4.2 repo is opensuse stable, i.e. frozen. The repo will not see any 4.2.3
version and only really, really important patches are added after the
creation.
I disagree, me and propably others currently using KDE4:Factory want 4.2.3 and
maybe 4.2.4 (depends when 4.3 gets semi stable =)), I don't think current
situation should suffer because of this step.
KDE 4.2.2 can't be made opensuse stable (compared to 4.1.3) and we shouldn't
advertise it that way, tell the people straight away they will keep following
the 4.2 development with that.
Most people jumping into the IRC chan on 4.2 day didn't get the difference
between opensuse released stable kde and kde released stable kde, "what you
mean 4.2 is considered unstable, kde just released it as stable", so we'd just
say "here you track the kde 4.2 branch, openSUSE just offers a stable base"

- Let the respin use that frozen repo.
- Post on opensuse-kde and blog about the stable repo, i.e. tell people to
change their repos.
- Wait some weeks.
- Move KDE 4.3 to Factory.
+ 1, this will give everyone enough time to switch their repositories, and
free Factory for 4.3 pretty early.

This way users have weeks to move to the stable repo before Factory gets
filled with KDE 4.3. The respin can use stable repos and users get the same
experience as if 11.1 was released with KDE 4.2.

I'd suggest just using _aggregate to keep :Factory and :KDE42 in sync (to bad
there is no symlink possibility, _aggregate seems to have pitfalls) and maybe
try to keep the rebuilds down, Seli said a branch update takes place roughly
every week, maybe just build once and then deactivate building once it's done
until the next resync? I lack the technical competence here, so please correct
if this idea sucks =)

That KDE4.2 respin is a good way to make openSUSE "release" with a KDE4.2 in
front of Ubuntu, Mandriva and Fedora and make it not look missing out a hot
summer ;-)

Good night,
Karsten
