... hmm, it now seems that it can't find the application mozillafirefox. If I
choose the upper radio button "in an application based on the contents of the
URL" then Konqueror opens with the URL correctly loaded. I'll stick with Konq
as my default browser, while I'm convalescing from this op.

I can't remember when this started happening. I don't remember
consciously changing any setting. Is there some way to get it back to
loading the actual link address into the browser address bar?
How did you set the default browser to firefox? Apparently this is caused
by an Exec line for the browser without %u or %U URL placeholders.
