I've just installed opensuse 11.1 with KDE 4.1 as my desktop and would
like to participate in testing out KDE 4.2. How do I set up my system
to get it? I understand that I need to add some additional
repositories, which ones are they (as I understand that the repository
for 4.2 is moving sometime this month)?

The info page about it is at http://en.opensuse.org/KDE/KDE4. While they are
not actually linked from that page yet, here are the one-click installer links
for the 4.2 betas (currently beta2):

Default desktop install:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/UNSTABLE:/Extra-
Apps/openSUSE_11.1/KDE4-DEFAULT.ymp

which also includes
Just the bare essentials, ma-am:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/UNSTABLE:/Desktop/openSUSE_11.1/KDE4-
BASIS.ymp

Once I get the correct
repository how do I go about installing the packages? Will yast
automatically pick the updated packages up or will it still try to get
packages from the normal opensuse update repository?

These one-clicks will add the repositories and then install the packages.
YaST basically examines all packages from all enabled repositories and picks
the newest (greatest version number) package available.

The usual disclaimers about unreleased software that may eat your homework,
change your world-view and ruin your marriage apply ;).
