Can you guess why I need them?
That's it exactly. I have a new box built to replace the one now running
10.2. Desktop "panning" is crucial, so I have to pick an OS to install that
has it. What is the newest openSUSE that does, 10.2?

The date http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11418 was filed
suggests that 10.2 is the last openSUSE version that supports virtual
desktops. If this is true, I cannot upgrade. Virtual desktop is an upgrade
blocker for me. Anyone else? What can we do? I can't fix 11418. :-(
???
Virtual desktops are still there ..

Maybe he refers to the panning feature, which has gone with xrandr 1.2.
