I decided to stick with KDE3.5 as my desktop and will wait until the
dust settles on KDE4.0 before advancing to it. A minor annoyance has
cropped up however and I wonder what has happened and how to fix it. In
SuSE10.2 and 10.3, if I inserted a CD or DVD in my drive, or a thumb
drive in my USB port, I would get a helper application automatically
launched asking me what I wanted to do... This rather nice feature has
gone away in SuSE11.0 and I wonder if something is broke or was a
decision made not to support it any more? (that would be sad and a real
loss of a nice convenient feature! IMHO) I do notice that these get
mounted ok under /media so I know that SuSE is recognizing the fact that
I have put something in the drive or a USB slot...

Maybe check the settings in kcontrol -> peripherals -> storage media.

Do your devices appear in sysinfo:/ / "my computer"?

Btw., the "notification of new devices" widget, is one of the things in KDE4.x
that works fairly well :-)
