Now that you've told me the name of the plugin I've googled for it, and
you are correct. I wish to get kmilo working. I became somehow addicted
to it.

The multimedia key response w/o kmilo looks like this:

If it not too much inconvenience, how to make it permanently?

But I have the mute on the master channel in gnome. Is that suppose to
be like this?

Channels available in KDE (kmix):

- - output master - no mute
- - output phone - mute available
- - output speaker - mute available

- - all input channels with mute including pcm.

Channels available in gnome (says alsamixer):
All output channels has a mute including master and pcm.

My sound card is according to:

- - yast:
0 CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Device

- - kmixer:
C-Media PCI CMI8738-MC8

- - alsamixer (gnome):
C-Media PCI CMI8738-MC8 (alsamixer)
