If I understand you correctly you are talking about mbox and maildir format 
used for a folder. If so, you right-click local-folders and choose create new 
folder, then you can pick the format you want to use for the new folder.

I am not sure if there is a converting feature, but you can simply create a 
new folder with the format you want to use and move the messages from one 
folder to the other, delete the old folder and rename the new one to the old 
one's name.
