[opensuse-kde] Kaffeine doesn't show up, what's it doing instead?

Hello list.
After starting kaffeine as non-root by either KDE's menue, or clicking on a
movie file, or calling it in a box the harddisk shows some action, but
kaffeine doesn't come up. It works well as root, and kaffeine-check as
non-root finds "all is good". Renaming kaffeinrc in .kde/share/config/ has no
effect, no new rc file is created.
Any hints about further diagnostics and debugging?
All the best,
gerhard
