Hello,
I am running suse10.0 on my system and have some trouble starting sessions different from "kde", i.e. the only session type I can start is kde. In the "session type" menu of kdm I can see all kinds of sessions like "kde", "fvwm" or "WindowMaker". "kde" works but no matter what other session type I select kde is always started.
I found the problem. It was due to a modification I made in /etc/profile. This lead to the effect, that in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm/sys.xsession all the files in /etc/profile.d/ were executed and in these files the variable WINDOWMANAGER was set to the default which is kde.
