I find this happens for me when I bootup with my thumbdrive in the USB port.
If I remove and reinsert it, then it auto mounts.
If that doesn't work, check /etc/fstab and see if there is an entry for it.
Also check /media (I have SuSE 9.1 Pro). If you see something like:
usb-storage-odd-GENERIC-USBMassStorage:0:0:0p1
Then do:
mount /media/usb-storage-odd-GENERIC-USBMassStorage:0:0:0p1
