no keyboard at login

Hi list,
After upgrading my KDE to 3.4 I am unable to login to kde. I have no keyboard
access. If I ssh to the machine and do "init 3" then "init 5" it's solved.
Anyone any idea?

ps: It's not the weather, we've had al kinds of weather already here and yes
the keyboard is connected and I tapped hard already, very hard... :-)
