As Leen pointed out, you have to quit KMail/Kontact from the menu File>Quit or use Ctrl-Q to close it. If you don't, it only suspends it to the systray and it will automatically start the next time you boot, because it is still running. This is the case with most all KDE programs now. Not sure of the logic, but that seems to be the direction they've went.
That's not true, especially not for kmail/kontact. That's the way for _all_ programs, _only_ if you set your sesson management to "restore last session". If you want to get rid of that, just change that in control center. I never close konqueror browser, kontact or anything else before shutting down. I just press the button on my PC and the ACPI scripts are halting the system. I have set my session management to "restore saved session" and then I started exactly those programs I want to autostart and then made the snapshot with "save session". Since this time nothing ever changed in the way my programs are starting after login. Best, Daniel
