Can anyone send me instructions how to install kde 3.4 on suse 9.1?
+ Configure the supplementary KDE release in YaST.
- Launch YaST - Select "Change Source of Installation" - Select "FTP..." or "HTTP..." from the "Add" pop-up - Fill in the pertinent mirror iformation. For example: + FTP Server Name: mirror.mcs.anl.gov (*) Directory on Server: /pub/suse.com/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_9.1/yast-source Confirm / OK - Click "Finish"
(*) Choose a mirror suitable to your geographical location. Look here to find one: http://www.novell.com/products/linuxprofessional/downloads/ftp/int_mirrors.h.... You might have to experiment with different mirrors to find one that gives good performance. And don't forget that in the period shortly following a major release like this, load on the mirror servers can be very high. It took me three hours to download the KDE 3.4 upgrade packages two days ago.
Now you'll be back in YaST's Control Center.
+ Select YaST Install and Remove Software. - Select "Package Groups" from the "Filter" pop-up. - Choose the "zzz all" group (last in the list) - From the Package menu select: "All in this List -> Update if newer version available". - Select "Search" from the "Filter" pop-up. - Search for "cyrus-sasl" - From the list of packages found, select for installation all except cyrus-sasl-devel.
Start the installation. You have a lot of data to download, so you better have a high-speed connection and I'd just find something else to do while the download and installation proceeds. If your network connection is not reliable, I'd find another way (a topic for another note).
Once the installation has completed, log out and back in.
You should have KDE 3.4.
-D PS : I'm new to Linux and Suse.
Welcome and good luck!
Feel free to ask for clarification. (And please don't be alarmed if I cannot respond for a few hours. I'm moving my system into a new case, and there's lots of careful work to do. Mostly likely others can help you, too.)

Thanks Randall. Your instructions for upgrading to kde 3.4 is very clear. I successfully upgraded to kde 3.4 on my SuSe 9.1. I had to make one minor change to the directory on server. Here is the new path Directory on Server: /pub/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_9.1/yast-source -Deepa
