Then xplanet-local is not getting executed. Based on this, I'm guessing
the preview does not show XPlanet output, either.

Another entry for the check list:

- $HOME/bin (or whatever directory holds the xplanet-local script)
is in your PATH variable. In particular, it must be in the PATH
that's in effect for KDE.

Did you select "No picture" in the main panel of the Background Control
Center module? If not, my experience was that the selected picture
obscures the dynamically generated desktop image.

You might want to look for clues in $HOME/.xsession-errors.
