Hi Bob,
Well here is what I did on my SuSE 8.2 system with KDE 3.1.4 before I stopped.
select Control Center select YaST2 modules select software select install and Remove Software saw that filter is set to selections: selected KDE Desktop Environment checked all the components where the installed version is 3.1.4 and set to update to 3.2.0
I would not update KDE fro within KDE in the first place
I did upgrade KDE from within KDE in SuSE 8.2. It caused me so many problems that I actually had to resort to a reboot. X got in heck of a state and I almost ended in a partial upgrade situation where I couldn't run any applications from KDE. Everything is good now but if I were to do it again it would be from a non-X shell. Given how convoluted my process was I can't really help, aside from this cautionary tale.
Are they part of the SuSE 9.0 distro?
you can find out using pin <searchstring>
Additionally there are earlier post on this list describing the procedure and mentioning issues.
