I am having the same problem...I have 8.1 installed with KDE 3.1 and the only thing that doesn't seem to work .....after right clicking from the desktop.... I get an error message that says libkcm_konq.la isn't available. I can't seem to find where that comes from. Oh....I also don't have KDE2 Compatible installed.

Hi,
it looks like I have a quit similar problem on a fresh installed SuSe 8.1: If I click on the virtual deskop icon using the right mouse button and choose "Configure..." I get an error message that says libkcm_konq.la isn't available.
After reading all recent suggestions I checked the kde-packages fist (all between 3.1 and 3.0.3, kdecompat isn't instlled). Than I called kconsole from the terminal window and it was working fine. I could make my configurations, but the problem on the icon remains.
I also checked that kdebase and kdeaddons3-kicker got updated to 3.1. It seems to me there is somewhere a "link" in the (SuSE?) configuration to the old name (libkcm_konq.la), but I wasn't able to find it.
