I have a problem starting kde. When I reboot my unit everything goes fine until it tries to start kde then the screen blinks three times and returns to the command line. I then log in and type startx the xscreen comes up and has a error box with Could not start kdeinit. Check your installation. Click OK and return to command line. Then type kde and the following comes up: ksplash: error while loading shared libraries: libGL.so.1: cannot open shared object file or directory. No such file or directory. kdeinit: error while loading shared libraries: libGL.so.1: cannot open shared object file or directory: No such file or directory. startkde: Could not start kdeinit. I'm betting you just upgraded Xfree86 4.3.0 recently didn't you? I've run into this a couple of times in the last 4 days, I ended up re-installing the whole Xfree86 bundle of crap again 1) cd the directory where all your downloaded Xfree86 rpm's are 2) rpm --nodeps --force -Uvh *.rpm (assuming you don't have alot of other rpm's in this directory) 3) Follow the readme directions from the download site if you need to add 3d support 4) delete any file named "fonts.cache-1" or "fonts.cache-1.gz" that is in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/... or one of its sub directories. 5) do the same thing for /usr/share/fonts/... if you need to I used mc to help me with this although there are ways to do it from the command line. 6) Run /sbin/SuSEconfig Thats how I did it. good luck -- dh Don't shop at GoogleGear.com!
