Just wondering if you updated the kernel. This is the first post of this thread that I read so if I'm off base I apologize. There has been much talk about problems with the kernel that shipped with 8.1. Or problems of how the kernel interacts with hardware that may have some problems. Try updating your kernel through YOU or apt. Plus there was a security vulnerability a few days / weeks ago, so it won't hurt to do it anyway. More info in the suse-linux-e archives under (I believe) blinking leds. Try going to http://www.netsys.com/cgi-bin/suse-linux-e and searching for that or just system freezes.
