That's every man's own choice. But not mine. I always wanted to know why s.th. doesn't work and try to fix it. Till now I succeeded. I made my own qt3.1 package with font antialiasing support for SuSE 7.3 etc.pp. But this always depends on how many time you are willing to spent etc.

This sounds to me like a problem with your X Server (wrong / buggy graphic driver)... What graphic card do you use? Nvidia? If this is true, then it would explain, why your crashes are not in one specific app, but in more apps and noone can reproduce them....
