Hi Patrick, thks for yr inform. I run Suse 8.0. I'm a rookie in Linux. What I understood from yr msg after installing Base & Devel rpm's I run : /sbin/SuSEconfig then this automatically arrange configuration for new version. Once updated Aplications I do again /sbin/SuSEconfig. Ok. With the kdelibs3 bug from update files, Can I take rpm i386 and install it ? How can I convert src.rpm to a rpm for my system ? Hello to everybody,
I wanted to update KDE 3.0.0 to KDE 3.0.4 but I have some problems :
1) I download all : Base, Aplications, etc ... rpm's from ftp site. Then I save them in a Cd-Rom. 2) I did : rpm -Uhv *.rpm (1st in Base, after in some Aplications) as per instruction of somebody in SUSE/KDE. 3) It appeared some dependencies errors with kdebase, kdelib, qt-3.0.5, etc ... 4) I forced updating with : rpm -Uhv --nodeps *.rpm and system updated everything but show an error that some carpets as wallpapers, etc ... were not empty, I don't know what does it mean ? 5) After reseting system, Control Center showed KDE version 3.0.4 ... OK. 6) When I tried to run any module of YAST2, it didn't work, why ? How can I resolve ? 7) Login background appear in GREY, why ? How can I resolve ? 8) I didn't change anything in the files sytem, because I don't know which files I have to change for making available KDE 3.0.4 for root and for normal users, and also I don't know how to modify them. Please help me.
If I'm doing anythin wrong or there are a method for doing easier please advise.

---------------------------------- Hi Miguel The best procedure to follow when updating the KDE files is base, devel & applications. The base will give you dependency errors because it is looking for matching files from devel, but do the --nodeps with base and then devel will show no dependencies. I always run /sbin/SuSEconfig after doing the base & devel files to put things in order on the system with the new files. I don't see where you mentioned doing that, so that could be one of your problems. After doing base & devel files update, I then update the application files and again run /sbin/SuSEconfig for the system. You didn't say what version of SuSE you were using and there were differences in 8.0 and 8.1 files. SuSE 8.0 kde files had a bug in the kdelibs3 update files and could cause some of the problems you mentioned. The solution was to compile from the src.rpm of kdelibs3 for your system and then install that resulting rpm. That would cure any problems you were experiencing.
