i believe that having another 'local' KDE directory is a good thing. i think, that it first we should add /usr/local/kde/bin to PATH and /usr/local/kde/lib to /etc/ld.so.conf then, there are files like /etc/kde3rc -- which, i believe, somhow configure the extra locations for /share and etc. yet, dont know if it works. anoter recipe -- make a symlink /usr/local/kde to /opt/kde3 -- then you wont have to specify the --prefix manually. g'morning everybody,
I have a question concerning the integration of compiled programs into the KDE3 environment.
When I ./configure, make, make install a program (here: Quanta Plus) how do I get all the icons, mime types and links conveniently integrated into my kde-menue (for all users, not only for my user account).
I found that when I do a make install all the programs stuff is copied in /usr/local/kde (all the Quanta Plus stuff, you know). Under this directory I find all the icons, docs, mime-links, desktop-files and-so-on.
When you configure you should use a parameter to tell it where your kde installation is
./configure --prefix=/opt/kde3
That way, everything will be installed in the correct directory
