* Kevin McLauchlan (kmclauchlan@chrysalis-its.com) [020710 12:31]: ::You suggested getting KDE 3.0.2, but SuSE doesn't seem ::to think I should have it, yet... ::YOU shows a 3.0.1-1, but it also applies the "G" marker in ::the list of available updates (implying that 3.0.1-1 does ::not apply to my system and therefore will not be installed, ::even if I insist on downloading. No mention of 3.0.2. :: ::So, if I went to KDE.org (or wherever) and got 3.0.2, will ::this affect future YOU updates? :: ::When SuSE tests and blesses an update from some ::supplier, does SuSE make a SuSE-specific package? ::Or is it the same package that the supplier created, ::only now made available via YOU...? :: Well, I've had issues with YOU for quite sometime. I guess I'm just to "old" to do this auto updater stuff. I would suggest using ftp (gftp or kbear will do) and downloading each set of packages from this directory on the ftp site. I would do this. 1. cd into /tmp 2. mkdir kde-updates 3. cd into kde-updates 4. mkdir apps base dev (and experimental if you wish) 5. fire up the ftp client and go to this url.... ftp://ftp.gwdg.de:0/pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_8.0/ 6. Download the pkgs to the corrisponding directories...ie. all of base goes in /tmp/kde-updates/base .. etc..etc. I would download all the packages in each directory so deps are met. If you wish to do pick and choose..that's fine as well. 7. cd into dev and run rpm -Uvh --nodeps *.rpm then run SuSEconfig. A. Do this for each set of pkgs. 8. After you have installed all the go into /tmp and delete all your user files such as "kde-<username>" and in your /home directory remove .mcop* and in /home/<username>/.kde you should remove the follow 2 symlinks "socket-<machine name>" and "tmp-<machine name> which are symlinks to the kde files you've deleted in /tmp. These are actually sanctioned SuSE pkgs...and I believe if YaST2 is completely up to date it picks up the supplementary directory..or it should in the near future.
