I am using SuSE 8.0 Professinal with KDE 3.0. Updated my system using YOU a few days ago. I installed mplayer from sources and found that the system would refuse to play the movies with sound. I had to fix it by disabling aRTS in the control panel. Now that aRTS is disabled (by disabling the sound server) mplayer is happy but xmms is mad now. XMMS displays an error message that says
Please check that:
1. You have the correct output plugin selected. 2. No other programs is blokcing the soundcard 3. Your soundcar is configure properly
Question: How do I make mplayer and xmms happy at the same time?
This may or may not answer your question but I found that by updating (or even installing some applications) the sound volume gets reset to a very low level. Simply raise the volume control and you're back in business. Cheers.
