Core 2 Duo ではないのですが、手元の環境では再現しませんでしたね( -> つま

top で見たとき、CPU を占有しているプロセスが TeXmacs だったということで

再現条件が特定できていないので解決に近づけるかどうか分かりませんが、
Bugzilla を見てみると以下のような Bug があがっていました。

Bug 228035 - TeXmacs fails to start on x86_64

…なので、Bug 232997 にあるように、Factory 版のもの
ftp://ftp.novell.co.jp/pub/suse/opensuse/distribution/SL-OSS-factory/inst-source/suse/i586/TeXmacs-1.0.6.9-7.i586.rpm
に入れ直してみたら動いてくれるかもしれませんね。
